Name :Prashant Role : Man 1 I am a Software Engineer by profession. I was born in India and have been in the bay area for over 4 years now. In my free time, I enjoy flying, biking, hiking, rollerblading, snowboarding, traveling, photography, tennis, movies and of course acting. It has been a great experience working with Sunny on the short film project and have learnt a lot about acting. In this film, I play the character of a man who finds the dead body. Since he was the first one to see it, he is very shaken at first and then transitions to being uneasy, nervous and paranoid about it. At the same time he is scared that he would be the primary suspect. He wants to get out of there as soon as possible, but he can't...He is stuck there because he was the first one to see the body. He thinks, he is the first one the copy or the way he calls it, "cop e" is gonna come after, if he runs away ! He is so busy thinking of how to get out of this situation that he forgets basic importance of life and death. |

Name :Asim Taher Role : Priest First of all glory goes to God with whose blessings all things are possible. That is me saying it, not the priest!! I am very thankful to Sunny for giving me an opportunity to act in "Small Steps, the". It was indeed a pleasure working with him and I enjoyed the experience immensely. About my background, I am originally from Bombay. I have had some acting experience prior, in theatre, having acted in a couple of plays while in high school. I took part in a school play called "Haiwatha" along with Abhishek Bachchan. I have always been intrigued by the art and how talented individuals get into a character and portray themselves with such ease and finesse. I have very high praise for Robert De Niro, Al Pacino, Jim Carrey, Aamir Khan, Paresh Rawal, and Naseeruddin Shah. In my free time besides acting, I love to travel, hang out at the local beach, play tennis, and try different cuisines! About the Character: I play the role of the priest in the film. The priest is a very knowledgeable man having read Samuel Beckett. Overall he has a very philosophical, serene and composed personality. Even though he is shocked at first to see the body, he does not panic. Nevertheless, he is deeply saddened by the loss of a life. He associates everything with God and believes God is the master planner and has a reason for everything that goes on in this world. We as mortals have no control over the happenings of life. The priest though a learned man, is constantly immersed in the Holy Bible whenever he gets a few minutes, even while waiting at the Ferry Station. Moreover, he believes that we as human beings are all sinners. He makes the rest of the people present in the restroom realize that the stains of the sinner have blotted on their skin as well. |

My experience as an actor - Abhishek Sheetal Role : Man2 My excitement knew no bounds when I got an email from Film casting that I was selected for an audition with Sunny. It was long wait, and a wait that was justified in itself, until finally Sunny announced my role in the short film. Having no background with movie making or theatre, it was a challenging task to stand in front of the camera, not to mention the people who were looking with some expectations. It was a laborious task of rehearsals and tips that gave me some confidence that I could stand there in front of the entire cast and speak out my lines. To see this project completed is indeed an extremely gratifying experience. It was a wonderful time spent. The cast and crew were great, Sunny himself shows a great deal of patience by having novice characters like me in his cast. I would love to work with him in future projects. In this movie, I am somebody who is going on a business travel, waiting for the ferry to arrive at the terminal. It is a relaxed soothing day. Things take a dramatic turn when I decide to go the restroom. I bump into another man who is so scared and is running out of the restroom. It is an intense scene. He is talking gibberish and I am trying to cool him down. He is talking about a body and blood and killed man etc. From then on whatever the sequence of events unfold is an eye-opener for us human beings. We as adults were lost in our materialistic or even metaphysical delusions, until finally a kid seem like saying, "Hey can you stop for a second, get out of your selfish world, look here, here is a man who is DEAD". |

Name: B.K. Vasan Experience: 1986. Worked as an extra in a speaking role in a TV serial in India. 1992. Extra in 'Interview with the Vampire' shot in San Fran. 1993. Extra in 'Copy Cat' shot on treasure Island. 2003. Major speaking role in 'Small Steps, the' Shot in Alameda and Milpitas locations, Ca Character in SST: ( Small Steps, the) My character is a serene monk who happens to stumble into a grisly scenario of a dead man in a public restroom. . He walks and talks with a slow deliberation common to people who have no fear of the unknown. The other people in the restroom are either flabbergasted at the horror of the scene or are terrified of being implicated in the murder. The monk on the on the other hand is cool and unruffled. He is philosophical and resigned to the fact that all mortals will meet an end one day and it makes no difference as to how they meet it. His calm demeanor is unsettling to the others in the face of such a grisly scene. His words are elaborate, bordering on poetic and completely sanguine to the extent of being uncaring, but that is his way of looking at the world - calm, dispassionate and unruffled. |

Rajani Rajan Support crew member, Costume designing, sets supervision and script sequencing. This is my first project in film and I am very excited!! I have been quietly interested in film for some time now but it is only this year that I took an active role in pursuing this dream. Sunny's project and his open mind as well as his belief in people helped make all this possible. My role in "Small Steps, the" was quite open ended and was to be defined by my own efforts and interest. I worked on costumes and makeup. I did get a chance to learn and see how things really happen during filmmaking, both behind the scenes and during filming. It was a very enriching experience and I hope to accomplish much more in the future |

Name: Sheel Gupta Role :Actress I started acting at age 7 in theater and continued to work in plays for about 8 years. At that time I never cared to pursue acting, it was just something I did because it was fun. After graduating from college in December ’02, I decided to start acting professionally in films, which was more on accident than planned. Since then, I have worked on over a dozen short and feature length independent films and plan to continue to do so before I move to LA sometime next year. Working on Sunny Menon’s film has been one of my favorite projects up to date. He has an extremely unusual, unorthodox style of preparation that seems to come together exactly as he envisioned at the time of shoot. He concentrates on team work and never underestimates anyone’s abilities which I find very refreshing. In Sunny Menon’s short film, I play the self-absorbed, supercilious actress from India. I am the cause of the mother’s distraction, which causes the young boy to wonder off and witness the dead body. |

Dr. Sushant Deb I play the role of Man3 who seems to be an 'arrogant' person always questioning (some times 'ridiculing') the statements made by the priest character and the monk character. The Man3 character does not do the 'due diligence' as expected upon seeing a killed body. My film acting career started very recently in late 2002 when I acted in a film titled "American Addiction". However, I have had many years of stage acting experience, both in India and here in US. I want to add a few words about Sunny Menon. His talent is already established through his past works. But his versatility and flexibility has not been addressed by anybody. Mr. Menon brought all of us, novice actors, together and helped us to bring our best for the documentary. A man of immense patience, he was flexible enough to 'connect' with each actor 'temperamentally' and, thus, was able to usher the 'discipline' we all needed as actors. It was my pleasure and priviledge to work with him on the documentary. |

Siddhant The small boy, who envisioned it all! Siddhant is 7 year old boy studying in 1grade. He is a fun loving boy. Till now he never dreamt about acting in movies, till he met Sunny Menon. Sunny made sure Siddhant understood what was told to him. Siddhant was very excited in this project. In this film "Small Steps The" Siddhant is a small boy, who is very inquisitive and is traveling with his mom (Priyanka Singh) on the ferry terminal. He keeps on wondering on the ferry terminal, observing various passengers and also talking to various people on the terminal. He is the boy who understood the reality of the situation. |

Sanjay and his character I was always fascinated by the film industry and the glamorous world that surrounds it but had never given a serious thought to it. I also felt it was a long shot for me until I met Sunny. Meeting Sunny was a big deal for me and getting to know him and his vision just blows me away. He is a great guy. I am not a actor from any angle so I agreed to do something simple. I played the dead man. It looked simple but when you deal with professionalism which Sunny brings to the table I had to change my thinking. I realized how much a role of a dead man is important to the film and the message it drives to the audience. It was fun working with Sunny and the team. |

Dale Anders Role: Musician I am an IT professional employed by Safeway Stores Inc. for nineteen years. Where, I have served in a number of roles including, project manager, programmer and currently working as a business analyst. I was born and raised in Omaha Nebraska, where I attended high school and college. I moved to California in 1970 and have been a resident of Oakland since 1972. First, I am honored to be involved with this project. I got involved with this project through Sanjay (one day Sanjay asked me “would you like to be involved with movies” – I said why not. And the experience started. I have no experience with movies; I was surprised to find how relaxed I was with this situation. The character I played was a street musician (a guitar player) that encounters a young man listening to his music -- the interchange between the young man and my character is very interesting. |
